The ‘Liars’ receive gifts from the grave

Though this week’s episode of PLL wasn’t quite as shocking as last week’s premiere, it still had its moments: scary ones, romantic ones, suspenseful ones and very odd ones.
The second episode of the summer opened with Emily’s discovery of a necklace made of what appeared to be human teeth in her purse. In their panic to decide what to do with what was probably evidence from Ali’s grave-robbing, the girls accidently flushed the dental decoration down the toilet. Woops.
But don’t feel singled out, Emily. It was Aria’s turn next when a mysterious earring that she had sent to the grave with Alison turned up in her locker. In a flashback, we watched as Ali and Aria discovered the earring in Mr. Montgomery’s office, assumed it was his mistress’, and proceeded to trash the room on skanky Meredith’s behalf. All of this, plus some good ol’ A text threats, led Aria to tell her dad the truth and to apologize to Meredith, who stated that she’d never owned that earring in her life. Hmm. The plot thickens!
Hanna was busy dealing with Mona issues, letting out some pent up frustration by throwing a chair around the crazy house cell (which I think was totally overdue and justified). Wren got a tad creepier for some inexplicable reason as he helped Hanna grieve through her “ambiguous loss,” while Caleb’s spidey senses tingled and he grew more suspicious of Hanna’s actions and Wren’s intentions. I’m with Caleb all the way: Wren is on the potential A-team list for sure.
We finally got some action out of Mona as she uttered her first words, “You’re getting them [the texts] again aren’t you?” and proceeded to intensely stab her own finger with a pair of tweezers left behind by Hanna after a Mona makeover party.
Meanwhile, Spencer continued the secret visits of her own to Garrett, who sustained his plea for her mother’s legal services while still remaining completely vague about the supposed details he has on Ali and Maya’s real killer. Needless to say, when Mrs. Hastings learned of Spencer’s slammer rendezvous, she was not pleased and warned her daughter of how bad it could look for Spencer to appear to be Garrett’s ally. But secrets and lies run in all of the Rosewood family trees, which was proven when Spencer spied her mother being referred to as “Garrett’s new lawyer.” My guess is Garrett’s got some info that would make Spencer or Melissa look very bad, so Mama Hastings is working for him to cover for her girls. While we’re at it, let’s add two more suspects to the A-team list: Garrett and Melissa.
But not to worry. When Spence is stressed, she’s got Toby to kiss her worries away — literally. And intensely. I don’t know what’s in the water this season, but this couple is definitely gearing up for a major love scene this summer.
Plus, Toby’s not just arm candy. He found newly prescribed eye drops in Jenna’s room, clearly indicating that her “unsuccessful” surgery might have worked after all. Jenna, who’s at the top of my long A-list, returned this week, acting “blinder than before,” but seeing the world much more clearly. The Liars tested Jenna, unbeknownst to her, and caught her looking at Aria’s mystery earring. They’ve decided to keep this secret until they can use it to their advantage. And hey, what fun would Pretty Little Liars be without a couple juicy secrets? Just Boring Little Truth Tellers, that’s what! Doesn’t exactly have the same ring to it now does it?
