The disturbing, unexpected ending of ‘Ringer’ shocks

Last night, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s new (and slightly confusing) show returned with a fresh episode and a surprising cliffhanger ending. A week ago, we left Bridget in the middle of admitting to Gemma who she really is after Gemma discovered the truth about Siobhan and Henry’s affair. Even though this information was hard to digest, Gemma eventually had to admit that Bridget was telling the truth after she noticed the absence of Siobhan’s burn scar. But don’t get me wrong: Gemma was beyond pissed and ready to leverage the information to her advantage.
Meanwhile, out-of-control stepdaughter Juliet returned to wreak havoc and defile anything belonging to Siobhan, including a huge portrait of her face. Let’s just say it was marked with five scarlet letters. It turned out that Juliet’s drugged up and drunk club nights were induced by her private school friends and a need to lash out against Siobhan for helping her dad cheat on her mom. Shock. With all this infidelity going around, it’s starting to look like Bridget is the sanest character of them all, which is really saying something.
While Andrew was trying to get control of Juliet, Bridget was really losing it under the pressure of Gemma’s threats to reveal her identity, which led her to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. When she couldn’t reach her sponsor (Malcolm is still being tortured for info on her), Bridget made a new connection in an NA member. Billy Miller guest starred as Charlie, bringing the Young and the Restless guest star count up to two after Michelle Stafford visited two episodes ago.
Gemma decided that the only way she could leave Henry with nothing in the divorce was if she had irrefutable proof of his affair, so she tells Bridget to sleep with him so that she can catch them in the act. Bridget, again, seemed to have more morals than everyone combined and told Gemma she won’t risk losing Siobhan’s family while also telling Henry what his wife was planning.
After Henry flipped out and headed home, vowing to keep his children, we saw a distraught Gemma call Andrew to come over. When Andrew arrived, however, a fidgety-looking Henry told him everything was all right from behind a barely open front door.
I never expected the episode to end this way – with Henry walking back through his crime scene of an apartment, passing by huge bloody handprints and smashed glass and lamps. Though I was skeptical about the show continuing with Gemma being in the know. I guess Henry took care of that.
Ringer airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on the CW and Fridays at 10 p.m. on Global.
