1. ‘Hart’ of the storm

My review of the Hart of Dixie finale on tvguide.ca!

Zoe gets caught in the rain, her love triangle on ‘Dixie’ finale

The day we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! No, not Lemon and George’s wedding day. Something much better! The Hart of Dixie finale!

Hart of Dixie was picked up for a second season last week, making Monday’s season ender even more of a nail-biter. The wedding day was off to a terrible start when George awoke from a bizarre nightmare where both Lemon and Zoe stood at the altar with him, dressed in white gowns. See, Georgie! Your subconscious is telling you to be with Zoe!

(Side note: I’d like to apologize now for how very conflicted I will be in this review. I love all the Dixie boys and want Zoe with both of her love interests. I can’t even pick between George and Wade, so I don’t know how she can!)

Speaking of Wade, Zoe tripping the breaker again didn’t help him let go of his undying hate for her, even though she tried to make him warm up to her again, this time as a friend. Zoe was throwing the “friend” card around a lot Monday night as she finally told George that she was staying in Bluebell for good, meaning they would have to coexist. His reaction set her off, causing her to rant to Lavon about how George must love her and how she has to storm into the wedding screaming, “I object!” Lavon, trying to avoid trouble, sent Zoe out of Bluebell for the day.

Meanwhile, Lemon’s preparations weren’t going well. She had a pimple on her chin and mimosa spilled on her wedding dress! Oh my! Little did she know that Tom’s knee was tingling, so her beautiful outdoor wedding in the town square was about to get washed out by an unstoppable squall. (Am I the only one who sees all the signs? This wedding can’t happen!) As George went through a range of emotions, he frantically tried, with the help of the whole town, to move the wedding into the old fire hall that was falling apart.

Zoe was tasked with picking up a stranded Wade. Naturally, the two were stranded together once the rain came in, leaving them wet and shivering in a nearby barn. Hmm … I wonder what happened there? Wade stuck to his hateful guns though, and told Zoe that the only reason he was ever attracted to her was because she became something he could never have. If they just got the physical stuff out of their system, they would both be happier and able to move on.

Due to different tragedies, such as a lost baby goat and barbed wire-induced cut, both Zoe and Wade had to peel off their soaking wet, but already see-through, shirts. Things started to heat up (finally!) until they were interrupted. I mean, rescued! The two headed into their separate homes until Zoe blew the fuse once more, signaling to Wade that she wanted to finished what they had started. And hallelujah, the two finally hooked up!

In the fire hall, George was losing it as the wedding literally crumbled around him. Lavon told him to postpone it, but George then had to admit to everyone (and, subsequently, himself) that if he didn’t marry Lemon today, he probably never would. Because he’s in love with Zoe! So off he ran, soaking wet, to break it off with Lemon (who punched him, deservedly) and to let Zoe know where he finally stood. Zoe got a kiss and promise of lovely tomorrows from George, and suddenly, she was the one stuck between two lovers. The final shot of her face was not one of excitement at future prospects, but of someone stuck between a George and a Wade-place.

Overall, it was an amazing ending to the season and I can’t wait to see what Zoe will decide when the southern charm of Hart of Dixie returns to the CW this fall. I am very jealous that she got both beautiful boys, hence why I can’t even decide which I would rather she end up with!

  2. A ‘Secret’ revealed

    2011-10-14

The ‘Circle’ suffers a major blow

When I started watching The Secret Circle this year, I was thinking, “Awesome. A show about teenage witches without Melissa Joan Hart or a laugh track. What could be better?” Never could I have ever imagined how creepy and frightening it would be! And I’m loving every minute of it, of course.

As if the opening title song isn’t scary enough, now I have to contend with demons and possessions that could put up a good fight with the chick from The Exorcist. Super. Last week’s snake demon made its way into circle-member Melissa in last night’s newest episode, “Slither,” which was less than fun for everyone involved.

The episode began with the re-introduction of Cassie’s grandmother as she gave the “you can talk to me about anything” speech in order to avoid repeating past mistakes that were made with Cassie’s mother. Cassie seemed to want to ask for her grandmother’s advice, but dictator Diana squashed this plan like a fly out of the fear of having their powers taken away by the elders. Oh, and let us not forget the creepy parent tag team of Dawn and Charles were obviously up to their usual creepy shenanigans as they tried (and failed) to create more crystals.

Melissa’s possession unraveled slowly and made me squirm in my seat as I watched her behave erratically violent with Nick and Faye. And the intensity only climbed once the circle became aware that they had a visitor of sorts, which was enough to end Diana and Adam’s attempt at a romantic night. After Nick clocked a disturbing demon-Melissa in the head and she was tied up, Cassie ran to grandma Jane and spilled the beans, begging for her help and expertise, which she brought forcefully, along with a crystal of her own.

In her attempts to save Melissa however, the demon was transferred over to Nick, who scurried off while the others learned that a moldy suitcase they had found was full of more of these pleasant demon snakes that needed to be burned or drowned ASAP. As the suitcase burned, Demon Nick found its original summoner: Faye’s mom, Dawn. She called in Charles, who obediently carried out her wishes once they agreed that the only way to save Nick was to drown the demon inside him. This, as it turned out, looked very similar to just drowning an innocent teenager, which they did unblinkingly.

My reaction to this final act: WTF!? I didn’t think that one of the six circle members would ever be killed within the first five episodes! Now I’m just wondering how Adam will cope with being the only teenage male lead.

The Secret Circle airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on CHCH / The CW and Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Much.

  3. Rogue lovers - Things finally heat up on ‘Nikita’

Check out my latest review on tvguide.ca!

Last night marked the much-anticipated return of my favourite new drama, Nikita, with the comeback episode “Covenants.” For those of you whose memories may be foggy after a torturous six-week hiatus, we left off with the heart-stopping moment when Michael finally discovered Nikita’s lair and her connection with the Division mole, Alex.

The episode picked up at this exact moment, where an enraged Michael wrongly accused Nikita of hiding the whereabouts of Kassim, the man who killed Michael’s wife and daughter in a bomb attack meant for him. Michael gave Nikita 24 hours to find Kassim for him, using Alex’s life as leverage.

Throughout “Covenants,” viewers were finally allowed into the history of Michael and Nikita’s relationship. The flashback took us back to their first mission together that almost resulted in a serious hookup — until Michael’s guilty conscience about the death of his family stopped him. He told Nikita that he couldn’t move on until he avenged them by killing Kassim. This was the reason he joined Division in the first place: to find the man who destroyed his world.

Nikita, who wanted nothing more than to help Michael get his revenge, devised a plan to learn Kassim’s whereabouts. She blew up his heroin delivery trucks in Russia, which smoked him out of his foxhole. However, Nikita was not willing to hand him over to Michael so easily: she offered to trade him for the locations of the remaining black boxes, her only hope of destroying Division.

Back home, Alex realized that she needs to get out of Division before it’s too late. She planned to break up with Nathan, her hunky neighbour, for his own safety. However, things got heated — as they must when a beautiful couple fights — and Nathan was pushed into Alex’s bed rather than out the door. Alex made a bad decision worse when she planned to go away with Nathan for the weekend. Honey, that’s the opposite of breaking up.

Meanwhile, things got dicey for Nikita when the hideout she was keeping Kassim prisoner in was attacked by his would-be rescuers. Would be if not for Michael’s timely appearance, that is. Of course, Michael’s redemptive moment that we’ve been expecting and waiting for was interrupted by the mind-blowing twist: Kassim is actually a member of Divison! This meant Percy hired him to kill Micahel in the accident that took his family instead. Michael walked away broken and unable to kill Kassim after this huge blow to all he had ever believed in, but Nikita wasn’t so forgiving. She killed Kassim and convinced Michael that, together, they can and will bring Divison down.

Most importantly, the high-stress situation raised the sexual tension that had been mounting between Michael and Nikita the entire season and the adversaries finally became lovers. And the Mikita ‘shippers go wild.

Nikita airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on A/The CW.
