1. ‘Pretty Little’ teeth?

The ‘Liars’ receive gifts from the grave

Though this week’s episode of PLL wasn’t quite as shocking as last week’s premiere, it still had its moments: scary ones, romantic ones, suspenseful ones and very odd ones.

The second episode of the summer opened with Emily’s discovery of a necklace made of what appeared to be human teeth in her purse. In their panic to decide what to do with what was probably evidence from Ali’s grave-robbing, the girls accidently flushed the dental decoration down the toilet. Woops.

But don’t feel singled out, Emily. It was Aria’s turn next when a mysterious earring that she had sent to the grave with Alison turned up in her locker. In a flashback, we watched as Ali and Aria discovered the earring in Mr. Montgomery’s office, assumed it was his mistress’, and proceeded to trash the room on skanky Meredith’s behalf. All of this, plus some good ol’ A text threats, led Aria to tell her dad the truth and to apologize to Meredith, who stated that she’d never owned that earring in her life. Hmm. The plot thickens!

Hanna was busy dealing with Mona issues, letting out some pent up frustration by throwing a chair around the crazy house cell (which I think was totally overdue and justified). Wren got a tad creepier for some inexplicable reason as he helped Hanna grieve through her “ambiguous loss,” while Caleb’s spidey senses tingled and he grew more suspicious of Hanna’s actions and Wren’s intentions. I’m with Caleb all the way: Wren is on the potential A-team list for sure.

We finally got some action out of Mona as she uttered her first words, “You’re getting them [the texts] again aren’t you?” and proceeded to intensely stab her own finger with a pair of tweezers left behind by Hanna after a Mona makeover party.

Meanwhile, Spencer continued the secret visits of her own to Garrett, who sustained his plea for her mother’s legal services while still remaining completely vague about the supposed details he has on Ali and Maya’s real killer. Needless to say, when Mrs. Hastings learned of Spencer’s slammer rendezvous, she was not pleased and warned her daughter of how bad it could look for Spencer to appear to be Garrett’s ally. But secrets and lies run in all of the Rosewood family trees, which was proven when Spencer spied her mother being referred to as “Garrett’s new lawyer.” My guess is Garrett’s got some info that would make Spencer or Melissa look very bad, so Mama Hastings is working for him to cover for her girls. While we’re at it, let’s add two more suspects to the A-team list: Garrett and Melissa.

But not to worry. When Spence is stressed, she’s got Toby to kiss her worries away — literally. And intensely. I don’t know what’s in the water this season, but this couple is definitely gearing up for a major love scene this summer.

Plus, Toby’s not just arm candy. He found newly prescribed eye drops in Jenna’s room, clearly indicating that her “unsuccessful” surgery might have worked after all. Jenna, who’s at the top of my long A-list, returned this week, acting “blinder than before,” but seeing the world much more clearly. The Liars tested Jenna, unbeknownst to her, and caught her looking at Aria’s mystery earring. They’ve decided to keep this secret until they can use it to their advantage. And hey, what fun would Pretty Little Liars be without a couple juicy secrets? Just Boring Little Truth Tellers, that’s what! Doesn’t exactly have the same ring to it now does it?

Pretty Little Liars airs Tuesdays, 8 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.

  2. Inside the mind of a ‘Nikita’ villian

    Interview on tvguide.ca

Melinda Clarke talks power struggles, torture scenes

Since Nikita premiered last year on The CW, I’ve been watching avidly. I was a fan of the stars, but their characters drew me in even more. So when TV Guide Canada got the chance to talk to Melinda Clarke, I was eager to talk to the woman who portrays the villainous Amanda. Plus, who wouldn’t want to interview the evil-turned-loving mother of Marissa Cooper on The O.C.?

But though both characters are less-than-noble, Clarke wouldn’t describe either as simply the bad guy.

“Julie Cooper was just a woman trying to survive and whose priorities were … just out of whack. So yes, she definitely fit the ‘villain’ role on [The O.C.], and certainly Amanda [does as well on Nikita], but I don’t approach it as a villain,” she says.

“In fact, I could probably sit down and make a case for every move that Amanda’s ever made, and Xander [Berkeley, her Nikita co-star] could do the same for Percy.”

Villain or not, before the winter hiatus, we got to watch Amanda torture Birkhoff (Aaron Stanford) with glee. Clarke was “pleasantly tickled” when she read the enticing scene.

“It was a wonderful move on the part of the writers to hold back and wait this long to actually write a scene like that. It has always been implied that Amanda was the inquisitor and things were happening behind closed doors,” she says.

“It was a concern of mine because I had never done anything like that and there were so many things involved with the props and sticking something up Aaron’s nose. We ended up having a great time with it because it was so different then what we normally see from Amanda.”

Clarke says that despite how much fun the scene was to film, the show is careful not to desensitize the audience with constant torture scenes: “I know that [writer] Craig [Silverstein] is very protective of showing the audience too much. We need to keep the audience engaged.”

This season, Nikita pulled the ol’ switcheroo, placing Percy in a silo-type prison and giving Amanda the control and power within the Division. Clarke found the change exciting and a catalyst for character development.

“This season has been interesting for me because it feels like she hasn’t succeeded as much as I would have thought. One of the great things about the flip in power was, ultimately, between Xander and I, we were able to create a completely different relationship between the two characters,” she says.

“As the episodes go on, there’s quite a bit of peeling back the layers on [Amanda and Percy], and maybe getting a glimpse into their relationship and what it’s actually been, emotionally. I’m excited for that. It will be interesting to see.”

In addition to Berkeley, Clarke shares the majority of her scenes with Lyndsy Fonseca, who plays Alex, Nikita’s ex-protégé. “Lyndsy and I always have a great time. Amanda is invested in Alex and is constantly grooming her,” she says.

“Amanda is motivated by the obvious reasons, but she’s also motivated by, even if it’s twisted, a true affection for Alex - something that she lost with Nikita. But [Lyndsy and I] always play that kind of mother-daughter dynamic.”

Clarke enjoys playing multi-layered characters like Amanda, whose motivations and true emotional connections aren’t always revealed right away.

“Even though she’s supposed to be this imposing character, she’s definitely very patient with characters like Alex. I think it’s because everything you see in Nikita is a chess game, so you see one move, and there’s another move off-screen. It’s all about what you don’t see. Amanda is a woman of secrets, an enigma, and a puzzle, and a mystery! So, everything you see, the opposite might be true.”

Clarke also hinted at some interesting things that will be occurring between Amanda and Percy, so we can only wonder if there is romance in their future or if she’s hinting at yet another switch of power and control.

”There’s going to be a big surprise – a big reveal – of something about Amanda that I don’t think anybody would have thought has been going on. Everything that goes on is planned to be advantageous for her, even though it may look like she just had a loss. It’s going to get really interesting and exciting, and the future of Division is definitely up in the air.”

Nikita returns Friday, Jan. 6, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.

  3. ‘SYTYCD Canada’ makes its first cuts

    First farewell on tvguide.ca

    2011-07-13

After a super-long performance show on Monday night featuring the Top 11 couples, last night it was time to say goodbye to the first guy and girl of Season 4.

Now, I’ll try to keep my Leah-ranting down after this, but I’m not promising anything. I just can’t help but wonder how Leah Miller still has this hosting job when, four years later, people are still as annoyed with her as ever. From her look to her sugary tone, her persona just oozes phoniness — or is it just me? Just watch one episode of Dance’s American counterpart and you’ll see the glaring contrast between our host and their wonderful Cat Deeley.

But back to the show. The Top 22 performed a group hip-hop number, choreographed by Luther, that looked like a highly-skilled and colourful flash mob. Needless to say, the group performances are way more entertaining and cause much less grimacing than those on American Idol.

This week, the bottom three couples consisted of Cassandra and Francois, Lauren and Rodrigo, and Geisha and Adam A. After their dance-for-your-life solos, the judges announced that we would lose Cassandra (who’s personality, despite sharing my name, I have no patience for) and the injured Adam A. Surprisingly, Jean-Marc invited Adam back to next year’s final due to his injury, which is uncommon as finalists who make it into the Top 22 or Top 20 are no longer eligible to try out in future years. Well, that was nice of them.

This, of course, makes for a shake up next week when Geisha will dance with her new partner Francois, which I believe will have awesome results.

So You Think You Can Dance Canada airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.

  4. ‘Wolf’ puppy love

    Teen Wolf review on tvguide.ca!

    2011-06-28

Skipping school makes hearts skip a beat

Though last night’s new episode of Teen Wolf lacked major developments, it’s easy to see the foundations that have been thoroughly laid down in order to build to some sort of huge climax soon – and I can’t wait!

As the wolf attacks on Beacon Hills continued, with angry jock Jackson being trapped under a video store shelf by the assumed Alpha, we were slowly given more details about the wolf-lore of the show. For some reason, the Alpha didn’t bite or kill the now-traumatized Jackson, leaving us, and Derek, wondering why. And speaking of, Derek revealed that with their heightened sense gift bag, werewolves also received lie detector abilities by listening to one’s heart beat.

Still, Derek, and everyone else, had trouble trying to keep Scott’s attention focused on the task at hand while his mind and body were somewhere else: with Alyson of course. The lovebirds, whose much-too-happy relationship is bound to be splintered apart soon, skipped school for Alyson’s birthday. They spent the day wandering the forest and hinting at each other, and us, that the sex is greatly anticipated and on the near horizon. Hurray for shippers. Let us not forget, however, Alyson’s wolf-hunter family history that will inevitably implode this relationship, especially now that she wears a sign of her hunting destiny around her neck: Aunt Kate’s heirloom birthday gift.

Yes, Aunt Kate is hanging around. This huntress enjoys playing with her prey, as seen last night when she taunted Derek, after tasing him obviously (cause what’s a hunter without a taser). Again, more background info was revealed as we learned that the Argent’s, sadly for them, were not the ones to kill Derek’s wolfy sister: it was Alpha.

Meanwhile, Stiles, my lovable funny man, found himself a lone wolf (pardon the pun) at school and even he eventually left to find the witness to the video store attack who just happens to, ahem, raise his blood pressure. Lydia, who’s becoming increasingly more interesting as her character is revealed to be more complex, was completely out to lunch on sedatives, but Stiles’ visit wasn’t fruitless. He found that she had recorded the werewolf on her cell phone! Great lead right? Except he deleted it! Why, Stiles, why!? Also, let us note the odd behavior from Scott’s veterinarian boss, who suddenly seemed unable to answer any animal related questions when Stiles’ cop dad showed him surveillance photos of the wolf. My brow was definitely furrowed.

Finally, Scott and Alyson’s parents met at parent-teacher conferences, accusing each other’s kid of leading theirs astray. But when the kids showed up, things got more intense and dangerous as the crowds outside the school scattered. A predator stalked through the cars that were trying quickly to escape. One of the cars almost hit Alyson but Scott’s instincts saved her, while Papa Argent’s instincts caused him to shoot first and ask questions later, killing a mountain lion. Surprise, surprise. No wolf on campus last night.

Where do you think these leads will take us? Comment below.

Teen Wolf airs Mondays at 10:00 p.m. on MuchMusic.

  5. Ad fad - ‘Hiccups’ takes on the commercial world

    2011-06-27 on tvguide.ca

Last night’s new episode of Hiccups was a sleeper for me. I don’t know if it was because Sunday is my least favourite day to watch TV or if it was because the episode was just plain boring, but either way, I was ready to count sheep. Other than the few shining chuckle-worthy moments, of course.

The episode focused on Millie’s foray into the advertising world as her agent saw what a natural she was when she filmed a flawless PSA. Taylor, whose cartoon self would definitely have dollars-sign pupils, immediately jumped on the opportunity to exploit Millie’s talent and quickly filmed demo commercials with her.

Meanwhile, in a completely useless storyline, Stan became his wife’s life coach because she felt she was in a rut. He got scary boss-lady Joyce to be her mentor and coach her on starting her own business, but regretted it when Joyce turned Anna into a bully. An an aside, who is really believing Stan and Anna as a couple? I just can’t get on board, especially knowing that Brent Butt and Nancy Robertsen are married in reality.

Anyhow, Millie got a commercial gig, but the director turned out to be a snooty jerk that made Millie nervous. The friction between them pulled the reluctant laughs out of me as Nancy Robertson proved why she’s the star of this show. Millie’s English accented-version of the commercial was amusing, as well as the rough side she showed in her improvisation. But as usual, this slip-up placed Millie’s public image in jeopardy, so she pulled the memory card, containing the contaminating footage, right out of the director’s hand and bit it in half.

    Yes, you read that correctly.

Hey, at least this episode got points for unexpected reaction comedy. I hope next week’s episode is more stimulating than this week’s nighttime Nyquil-like snoozer thought.

Hiccups airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m on CTV.

  6. ‘Wolf’s bane

My review of Teen Wolf on tvguide.ca
    2011-06-21

Taking the bullet on ‘Teen Wolf’

Let me just start by saying that I am thoroughly enjoying this show, much to my surprise. I expected it to be a typical MTV-esque teen show with cheesy, eye roll-inducing one-liners. But what’s really great about Teen Wolf is how relatively un-cheesy it actually is, considering the subject matter and possible network-related prejudices.

Though many aspects of it are cliché, like the cute, lone-wolf boy getting the pretty new girl in school, whose father just happens to be a werewolf hunter, sometimes Teen Wolf throws me for a loop. Last night’s new episode began with a pretty blonde driving alone on a dark road. Throw in some sidelong glances and creepy, suspense-building music, and you know what’s coming: she’s obviously about to be attacked by a wolf. Oh no, wait! She’s a sort of super-girl who somersaulted out of her truck and landed gracefully with a giant rifle in hand, that she proceeded to shoot Derek Hale with. I’d say this would-be damsel in distress was quite prepared.

Scott soon discovered that this woman was none other than Alyson’s Aunt Kate. Of course she is – looks like the Argent family breeds highly-trained hunter. This does not bode well for the budding romance of star-crossed lovers Scott and Alyson – especially since he can’t help but let his wolf side get the best of him every time things get steamy between the couple.

But back to the action. Derek was mortally wounded by Kate’s special bullet and needed Scott to figure out what’s so special about it before his 48-hour window closed. Luckily enough, Scott entered the Argent house for the first time to study with his girl after school and was asked to stay for dinner by cool Aunt Kate, much to Papa Argent’s chagrin.

Scott managed to find the magic bullet while rifling through Kate’s stuff and discovered it contained Nordic blue monkshood. If you, like I, read Harry Potter or Googled “wolfsbane” after the first episode of the show, you would know that monkshood is just another name for it, which meant Derek was in huge trouble and needed the bullet’s contents to heal his wound.

On his way out, though, Scott was cornered by the now not-so-cool Aunt Kate, demanding he turn out his pockets. But Alyson took the second (this time hypothetical) bullet of the episode as she whipped out the condom she stole from her aunt’s bag. Scott, surprised as anyone, sped away to save Derek, the only person who could possibly protect him from the ominous Alpha wolf.

The overall entertaining hour ended with a warning from Derek as he introduced Scott to his nursing home-ridden uncle who was stripped of half of his face (and more than half of his humanity) in the fire set by the Argents. Apparently, Alyson’s family will stop at nothing, including killing innocent people, in order to rid Beacon Hills of wolves. Be ware, Scott!

Teen Wolf airs Mondays at 10 p.m. on MuchMusic.

  7. Oh, Canada!:‘Dance Canada’s Jean Marc excited for Season 4

My article/interview with Jean Marc Genereux on tvguide.ca!
    2011-06-20

It’s the moment Canadian dance fans have been waiting for: the return of So You Think You Can Dance Canada. Tonight, Canada’s favourite home-grown competition begins its fourth season with two hours of Toronto auditions, with returning host Leah Miller.

Back on the judging panel are Luther Brown, Tré Armstrong, Jean Marc Genereux and guest judges Mary Murphy and Rex Harrington. After hours of auditions, hopefuls will either get tickets straight to the finals or have to endure choreographer Blake McGrath’s dance boot camp to earn their way through.

If the first episode is any indication, viewers should be pleased with the level of talent in Season 4. We’ll see many dancers returning to audition with strength and passion, including many impressive contemporary dancers, break-dancers, and pop and lockers – even one super-cute classical dancer!

Now throw in some emotional life stories of hardships and the saving power of dance and you’ve got yourself a show. Of course, SYTYCD Canada would not be complete without some painfully hard-hitting (and not in a good way) auditions that make your toes curl.

Our favourite francophone judge and ballroom dance champ, Genereux, spoke with TV Guide Canada about what to expect on the show, and what he expects from dancers. “What is so important is the connection,” he explains over the phone. “If they are with their partners, the connection is physical and visual, but … first and foremost is the connection with the viewers. So it’s all about being able to project and connect, and that’s what I look for.”

When asked about special dancers to pay attention to, Genereux was not able to give any names just yet, but expressed that every province “showed up” on the audition tour. Though, from the past, he marked Nico Archambault, Vincent Desjardins, and last season’s winner Denys as special gems, and even mentioned that Season 1’s Natalie Reznik is now a dancer for Alicia Keys. These kids have gone places.

He says his favourite part about being a SYTYCD Canada judge is having a front-row seat to burgeoning success and talent. “It warms my heart every single show. I’m a judge, but I’m also a great audience and a great advocate of Canadian talent … it’s beautiful.”

He also talked of the show as a great launching pad for any dancer’s future. “Those kids are being discovered and they have followers, and it’s smart for any artist or production to tap (into) that market to boost their ratings…. Those kids have networks.”

Long-time fans will remember Season 1 champion Nico Archambault, who has since gone on to great success as a choreographer and dancer; this year returns to his roots. He will join the panel as a special guest in finals week, and Genereux is overjoyed. “It’s a full circle. And if people don’t believe in dreams, well there is an answer right there. Too many times, you see people and you would love to know what they think, but they don’t have the opportunity. I think the production was very, very smart to allow this guy to express himself and I think it’s great for the show.”

And what should we expect from Season 4? Crazy talent, says Genereux. “Be ready, OK? The cross training, and I know that ‘cause I witnessed it in the final, there is no weak link. So they’re signed and sealed, and they are ready to deliver on this amazing stage.” According to this judge, “the viewers have to buckle up, brace themselves, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride! Those kids are ready to play and they’re going to play hard. So if you liked Season 1, 2 and 3, you’re going to love Season 4!”

  8. Double trouble

Check out my TV’s Top 10 favourite twins on tvguide.ca!

    2011-06-13

You may or may not know this, but many young characters on TV are portrayed by twins — not only to share the acting load, but because of child labour laws, too. In some instances, twins are even used to fill the roles of identical siblings rather than having one actor pull double duty.

June 13, 2011 marks the 25th birthday of arguably the most famous twins in the entertainment biz: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. To celebrate their quarter-century milestone, we’ve compiled a list of the best twins on television. Some very popular characters have been portrayed by identical siblings and may surprise you.

Who made the cut for our favourite twosomes? Click here to find out.

    Thoughts? Comment below.

    1. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
The top spot on the list has to go to the birthday girls themselves, who are actually fraternal twins. Both girls started acting at the tender age of nine months, famously sharing the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House from 1987 until the show’s demise in 1995. They were credited jointly as Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen to keep viewers from catching on that it was two girls who were delivering Michelle’s favourite (and adorable) one-liners, such as “You got it, dude!” and “You’re in big trouble, mister!” The girls got to act side-by-side in four different episodes of Full House, though, including the series finale where one played an amnesia-riddled Michelle and the other, her conscience.

The Olsens’ careers did not stop at Full House, however, despite some unfruitful projects. Mary-Kate and Ashley also played twins on the short-lived shows Two of a Kind and So Little Time, as well as in films like It Takes Two, Passport to Paris and New York Minute. In addition to acting, the girls also became the face of a mystery book series, multiple clothing lines and Barbie dolls, among other things.

    2. Dylan and Cole Sprouse
After the Olsens, the path was paved for young twins. These fraternal doubles landed their first shared TV role when they were just eight months old, playing Patrick Kelly on Grace Under Fire for five years. Afterwards, Dylan and Cole shared roles in films as well — their breakout movie was Big Daddy, which co-starred Adam Sandler.

What some people may not know is that Cole alone played Ross’ son Ben on Friends, but the two brothers worked together again when they landed what grew to be a smash-hit TV show for kids and pre-teens: The Suite Life of Zack and Cody (2005-2008), which then nabbed a sequel titled The Suite Life on Deck (2008-2011). The boys continued to portray brothers Zack and Cody in The Suite Life Movie, too, which was released in 2011.

Last year, both Dylan and Cole were accepted to New York University and plan to begin studying there soon.

    3. Cynthia and Brittany Daniel

Cynthia and Brittany made their acting debut in an episode of The New Leave It To Beaver after modelling for teen magazines. Following this, Brittany scored a lead part in a lesser-known Sarah Michelle Gellar show called Swans Crossing. Finally, the girls landed their breakout roles (the only well-known ones, too) as opposing twin sisters Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield on Sweet Valley High, a teen drama that aired for four seasons before being cancelled due to low ratings.

Since then, Cynthia has given up acting in lieu of photography, while Brittany has carried out her Tinseltown career, starring in The Game for the past four years.

    4. Tia and Tamera Mowry

Tia and Tamera Mowry are best known for playing twin sisters of the same names on Sister, Sister. From 1994-99, these identical twins portrayed the Landry sisters who were separated at birth and reunited as teenagers. The Mowrys also have a connection to the Olsens as Sister, Sister was developed specifically for them after a producer spotted them on the set of Full House with their brother, Tahj, who had a recurring guest role on the family show as Teddy, one of Michelle’s best friends.

Currently, Tia plays Melanie Barnett Davis on The Game, starring alongside Tahj and Sweet Valley High twin Brittany Daniel. Tamera was last seen in the ABC Family series Roommates. Both of the twins are now married.

    5. Sullivan and Sawyer Sweeten
It might be hard to believe, but Ray Barone’s adorable twin boys are now 16 years old! Sullivan and Sawyer started playing Michael and Geoffrey Barone, respectively, on Everybody Loves Raymond at the age of one. They were joined by their real-life older sister Madylin, who portrayed Barone sibling Ally. During their 10 years growing up on Raymond, the boys also shared the role of Milton on Even Stevens.

    6. Blake and Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit
Yet another connection to the Olsen twins: Blake and Dylan played Michelle Tanner’s younger cousins, Nicky and Alex Katsopolis, on Full House. The twins were introduced in 1992 as the children of Uncle Jessie (John Stamos) and Aunt Becky (Lori Loughlin), and continued to star on the series until its final bow in 1995. Both Blake and Dylan quit acting after Full House and lead the lives of average 20-year-olds today.

    7. Max and Charlie Carver
Max and Charlie Carver are 22, but have only been acting since 2008, when they landed the roles of Porter and Preston Scavo on ABC’s Desperate Housewives. The twins have played Lynette’s oldest sons since Season 5. Previously, the roles were filled by other famous acting twins Brent and Shane Kinsman (Cheaper by the Dozen), who portrayed their characters at a younger age. Since he began appearing on Housewives, Max has also guest-starred on The Office and Good Luck Charlie.

    8. Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush
From 1974-82, NBC primetime drama Little House on the Prairie delighted audiences with stories based on the novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Like the Olsens, the Greenbush twins were credited as one person, Lindsay Sidney Greenbush, for their shared role as little Carrie Ingalls.

A couple of years and some small cameo roles later, the twins put acting behind them. Today, they are 41 years old with interests that include horses and boxing.

    9. Diane and Erin Murphy
These fraternal twins shared the role of Tabitha Stephens on Bewitched for just one season. As they grew, the girls began to physically differentiate, so Erin took over for the remaining six seasons of the show. Diane left the industry at the age of 13, while Erin continued to act in over 100 commercials and in TV shows like Lassie. She’s since gone on to become a makeup artist, a fashion stylist, an acting teacher, a game show host and a stunt double.

    10. Ella and Jaden Hiller
Many people may not realize that Mitchell and Cameron’s adopted baby girl, Lily, is actually portrayed by twin girls Ella and Jaden Hiller. The girls are still small toddlers, but if Modern Family has as long of a TV run as Full House did, these twins could potentially become the next Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

  9. Getting hitched: TV’s Top 10 most memorable weddings

Check out my Top 10 on tvguide.ca!

    2011-05-02

We know some of you may be experiencing the post-Royal Wedding blues. After months of preparation, excitement, and anticipation for the marriage of two total strangers that you probably watched in your pyjamas as their nups were televised, you have nothing left to look forward to.

So, to save you from this impending funk, we’ve come up with our favourite TV weddings in order for you to keep the fever going a little longer. These couples not only procured high ratings, but they made many lasting memories and even managed to wring out a few tears.

    LUKE and LAURA (General Hospital)
Luke Spencer and Laura Webber’s wedding, which aired on Nov. 17, 1981, remains the highest-rated hour in American soap opera history with over 30 million viewers. The unmatched super-couple landed on the cover of Newsweek and their nuptials even featured a guest spot by Elizabeth Taylor. Luke and Laura were married for two decades and had two kids together. They have since divorced and while Anthony Geary is still embroiled in drama in Port Charles, Laura’s portrayer, Genie Francis, hasn’t been on GH in years, and heads to The Young and the Restless at the end of May.

    MONICA and CHANDLER (Friends)
Monica Geller became Mrs. Chandler Bing during the hour-long Season 7 finale, which aired on May 17, 2001. About 30 million viewers tuned in to see two of their favourite pals prepare to tie the knot. Though the episode started in a panic — Chandler got cold feet and went missing but best man and brother of the bride, Ross brought him to his senses — the wedding went off without a hitch, for the most part. Probably one of the most shocking cliffhangers in Friends history occurred that night in a final scene (filmed without the usual studio audience in attendance in order to keep the big secret) where it was revealed that Rachel was pregnant. Monica and Chandler lived happily ever after and even adopted newborn twins in the series finale just before moving out of the infamous purple apartment.

    CÉLINE DION and RENÉ ANGÉLIL
On Dec. 17, 1994, a 26-year-old Céline Dion married her long-time manager René Angélil who was 51 at the time, almost double his bride’s age. Wearing a pearl-studded silk dress with a 23-kg train and a headpiece containing 2,000 crystals that would make Lady Gaga jealous, the singing superstar declared her love for her unlikely partner at the Notre Dame Basilica in Old Montreal. Five hundred guests, as well as many Canadians watching on their televisions at home, experienced the union. Today, the couple stands strong with their three children.

NATHAN and HALEY (One Tree Hill)
When Haley James started tutoring bad boy Nathan Scott in the first season, no one thought they’d be married by the end of the year. After time apart during Season 2, the show’s favourite couple reunited to walk down the aisle one more time to restate their love in front of their family and friends. The third season finale on May 3, 2006 marked the big day for Naley — but nothing’s ever perfect in Tree Hill. After an unsolved four-way pregnancy scare and a few intense arguments, Nathan’s uncle Cooper and a broken-hearted and drunk Rachel drove the limo off a bridge, causing Nathan and Lucas to jump in after them. Talk about a cliffhanger. Years later, Nathan and Haley are still happily married and have two children, Jamie and Lydia.

    ROB MARIANO and AMBER BRKICH
No one knows how to milk reality TV stardom like Mr. and Mrs. Mariano. Boston Rob alone has been on four different seasons of Survivor and two seasons of The Amazing Race (while Amber participated in two seasons of each show) and together, they shared Rob & Amber: Against the Odds with the world. On top of all that, Rob and Amber Get Married was televised as a two-hour CBS special about their “private” wedding ceremony at the Atlantis in the Bahamas on April 16, 2005. The limelight lovers are still together today and have two daughters, Lucia and Carina.

    PAM and JIM (The Office)
Nearly 10 million people watched as Office lovebirds Pam Beesley and Jim Halpert exchanged their vows — twice — on Oct. 8, 2009 in an hour-long special. The Dunder-Mifflin employees followed the couple to Niagara Falls where they snuck away from the office madness that would veritably ruin their wedding. Of course, they could not hide from Michael and the gang, who made a grand entrance: a spoof of the popular YouTube video “The JK Wedding Entrance.” Pam and Jim went on to have a baby girl named Cecelia Marie Halpert, who was actually named by actress Jenna Fischer herself (after her niece).

DAVID and DONNA (Beverly Hills, 90210)
The eternally on-again off-again Donna Martin and David Silver finally tied the knot during the show’s emotional two-hour series finale, which aired on May 17, 2000. It was a marriage a decade in the making for fans of this classic series. Donna and David emerged early on as the couple to root for amidst the messy love triangles such as the Brenda-Dylan-Kelly situation. In the current reboot of the show, 90210, it was revealed by Donna (played by the returning Tori Spelling) that she and David split up, sadly, after the birth of their daughter.

TRISTA REHN and RYAN SUTTER (The Bachelorette)
Trista was the runner-up in the first season of The Bachelor, which led to her being the first Bachelorette in 2003. She chose Ryan Sutter as the winner and the two were married on married on Dec. 6, 2003. They were paid $1 million by ABC for the right to televise their wedding ceremony, which drew over 26 million viewers, making it one of the most widely viewed specials in reality TV history. The wedding itself reportedly cost $3.77 million, which isn’t surprising considering the bride’s diamond-encrusted shoes cost $50,000 alone. Most surprising of all, this reality couple is still going strong today after seven years and they have two children.

    DAPHNE and NILES (Frasier)
Beginning in just the third episode when Niles fell in love with Daphne, the relationship between Frasier’s live-in housekeeper and his brother progressed throughout the entire series. In a four-part episode closing Season 7 and opening Season 8, Niles finally confessed his feelings to her and she left her fiancé at the altar. But it wasn’t until the Season 10 premiere that the two actually got hitched. Daphne and Niles had their first child in the series finale, “Goodnight, Seattle,” and named him David (after the show’s co-creator, David Angell).

DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES and PRINCE CHARLES
As the first British commoner to marry the heir to the throne in some 400 years, Diana was every bit the fairy-tale bride. On July 29, 1981, Diana wed His Royal Highness Prince Charles, heir to the British throne. The “wedding of the century” was a national holiday only in the U.K., and watched by 750 million people worldwide, the most ever for a televised ceremony. Di’s dress also broke records with its 25-foot train of ivory taffeta and antique lace. This fairy tale didn’t end happily ever after, unfortunately, as the couple was involved in scandal, alleged affairs, divorce in 1996, and a tragedy that took the beloved Princess’ life in 1997. Diana’s ring, consisting of 14 diamonds surrounding a massive blue sapphire, now sits on Kate Middleton’s left hand as she weds her prince, Di’s eldest son, William.
